I saw a post on Twitter this morning from my mentor, Marty Siegel, that simply said "playingforchange.com is awesome!" I went to check it out. Wow! What a great vision. If you want to get your day off right or need a pick-up when you are having a bad day, take five minutes and go watch this video. I guarantee you that when you are done the world will look a little different.
I was thinking about the name - Playing for Change. It can have several meanings. Most of the artists are street musicians that literally play music every day for the spare change that passerby's may have in their pocket. Yet, this video so poignantly shows that we, as humans all around the globe, can be united around one of our common languages - in this case, music - and actually change the world to make it a better place. This is not some huge multi-billion bureaucratic, political, national government program. These are individual human beings spread around the globe coming together to make a difference. This truly is a movement - one that you can be a part of regardless of your political, religious or national affiliation.
