'iTunes university' better than the real thing - New Scientist

New psychological research suggests that university students who download a podcast lecture achieve substantially higher exam results than those who attend the lecture in person.

Dear Education System:

Is it still all about helping students learn? If so, I suggest you read this article and figure out what you are going to do about it.

Best Regards,

Jay

Dear Jay,

It sure is, but we have to keep the lights on and competing for good faculty while finding the most effective means of reaching students in a digital age. We're not small institutions that can turn on a dime.

Yours truly,

Dear Education System:

Thank you so much for your quick response. Glad to know that you are so connected to the internet. That is a good start. Of course, I couldn't resist throwing in a few more idioms. I am thinking "A journey of a thousand miles starts with one step" or maybe "How do you move a mountain? - one shovel scoop at a time".

For those institutions that are embracing and adopting new technology that can enhance the learning experience, I applaud their efforts and boldness. I understand that change is not easy or fast but at least you are taking the first steps.

Here is my real concern. How can we help the institutions or, more precisely the faculty/teachers/administrators, that are resistant to adopting technology that enhances the learning experience? I want to be able to help them too so that they can be confident that their "lights are on" in the future. Otherwise, they may not even have the choice as other organizations that adopt this technology will "punch their lights out" because they won't be able to compete for the good faculty and instructors.

I look forward to hearing back from you soon. Take care.

Sincerely,

Jay
